U.S. Soccer and philanthropist Michele Kang have launched the Kang Women’s Institute, a new platform designed to accelerate progress in women’s soccer through research, innovation, and evidence-based best practices for female players at every level of the game. The institute is backed by a historic multi-year commitment from Kang and housed within U.S. Soccer’s Soccer Forward foundation.

Focus of the new institute
The Kang Women’s Institute will fund nationwide research on the health, performance, and long-term development of women and girls in soccer, including injury prevention, return-to-play protocols, and coaching practices tailored to female athletes. It will also work with professional leagues and youth organizations to establish research-backed standards for training, safety, and wellbeing across the sport.

Kang is a billionaire business leader and major figure in women’s soccer, serving as owner of the Washington Spirit as well as top women’s clubs in France and England. Through her women’s sports company, Kynisca, a multi-team global organization dedicated to professionalizing women’s football—she has driven investment into performance science, infrastructure, and commercial growth for the women’s game.
