Finding Academies

Finding Academies

Finding an academy (the right one for your athlete) is not a simple google search. When researching or looking for a soccer academy in Spain, there are several important factors to consider:

Reputation and Track Record

  • Assess the academy’s reputation and track record in producing professional players.

Look for success stories and alumni who have progressed to elite clubs or national teams. This provides evidence of the academy’s ability to develop talent and create pathways to professional soccer.

Facilities and Infrastructure

  • Evaluate the quality of the academy’s facilities

Top academies in Spain often feature state-of-the-art training centers with:

  • Natural and artificial turf fields (their own or in the local area)
  • Modern fitness equipment (or options to good fitness centers)
  • Specialized medical and physiotherapy services
  • Accommodation and dining facilities
  • Classrooms for academic studies (depending on your situation)

High-quality infrastructure plays a crucial role in providing an optimal learning and development environment for young players.

Coaching Staff

  • The expertise and credentials of the coaching staff are vital

Look for academies that employ experienced coaches with:

  • UEFA licenses
  • Professional playing experience
  • A track record of developing young talent

Qualified coaches can offer personalized guidance to enhance players’ skills and knowledge of the game.

Training Methodology

  • Consider the academy’s training philosophy and methodology

Spanish academies are known for their focus on technical skills, tactical awareness, and possession-based play. Ensure the academy’s approach aligns with your goals and playing style.

Competitive Opportunities

  • Look for academies that provide regular competitive matches and tournament participation (and that players are federated) – See our page on getting federated.

This exposure is crucial for player development and can increase opportunities for scouting by professional clubs.

Academic Integration

  • For younger players, it’s important to choose an academy that balances soccer training with academic education. (it’s how we started our journey)

Many top academies in Spain offer flexible study programs or partnerships with local schools to ensure players continue their education alongside their soccer development. (there are US remote school options as well)

Cultural Immersion

  • Consider the opportunity for cultural immersion

Learning Spanish and experiencing the local football culture can be valuable for personal growth and adaptation to Spanish soccer.

Pathway to Professional Clubs

  • Investigate the academy’s connections with professional clubs and their track record of facilitating player transitions to higher levels.

Some academies have direct links to professional/semiprofessional  clubs, which can provide valuable exposure and opportunities.

Cost and Duration

  • Evaluate the financial commitment required and the duration of programs offered

Prices can vary significantly between academies, and program lengths typically range from three months to full academic years. By carefully considering these factors, you can make an informed decision when choosing a soccer academy in Spain that best aligns with your goals and aspirations in football.

Important to note:

Most if not all academies will help with the VISA process.  If it is not clear on their website, ASK! This is a complicated process and the more help you get the better.
