The inaugural IberCup x ECNL International wrapped up Monday at WRAL Soccer Park in Raleigh, giving American U11 and U12 boys a rare chance to test themselves against international academy sides without leaving the country. Over Labor Day weekend, more than 140 domestic teams joined clubs from 18 countries in a 7v7 format across four days of group play and knockout rounds (WRAL, ECNL).
When the trophies were handed out, the podium was genuinely international. ECNL Boys summed it up as “Three Continents, Four Winners,” with champions coming from Philadelphia, Brazil, and Japan (ECNL Boys on Facebook). Brazilian powerhouse Palmeiras took one of the U12 titles, and Japan’s Kashima Antlers beat SL Benfica 5–3 in one of the featured finals (IberCup USA 2026).

How the Americans did
At least one of the four trophies came home with a Philadelphia-area club, per ECNL Boys’ post-tournament recap (ECNL Boys on Facebook). ECNL has not yet named the specific club or division, but the result is worth pausing on: in a bracket packed with Palmeiras, Grêmio, Benfica, Kashima Antlers, and other academies parents rarely get to see up close, an American side won a division outright.
Beyond that headline result, several U.S. sides made deep runs in the Gold Playoffs. Eastside FC out of Washington had the most public write-up, and it captures what many domestic clubs experienced. Their BU11 Pre-ECNL I team finished second in a group that included Grêmio, ranked ninth overall out of 24 Elite clubs after group play, and reached the quarterfinals, where they drew Benfica 1–1 with a late equalizer before losing in kicks from the spot. Their BU12 Pre-ECNL I side advanced through to the Round of 16 out of 64 teams before falling to eventual champion Palmeiras (Eastside FC).
The full American field spanned the country and every layer of the ECNL pyramid, from MLS academies and ECNL clubs to ECNL Regional League and Pre-ECNL sides, including Charlotte FC, San Diego Surf, Dallas Texans, Solar SC, Eclipse Select, Seattle United, Crossfire Premier, Legends FC, NC Fusion, North Carolina FC, Ironbound SC, PSL Hurricanes, Florida Premier, Strikers Miami, and dozens more (ECNL).
Why this matters for parents
For U11 and U12 families, IberCup x ECNL is a preview of something new in the American youth landscape: high-level international competition at the youngest ECNL ages, on home soil, without the cost and logistics of a trip to Europe. It also sits inside a bigger 2026–27 shift, with ECNL adding clubs across ECNL, ECNL RL, and Pre-ECNL, and a new ECNL Conference League Playoff structure tied to the unified US Club Soccer and US Youth Soccer competition set to debut next summer (ECNL, May 12, ECNL, March 2).

Note: A full official results list from IberCup has not been published beyond featured finals and individual club recaps at the time of writing. The specific U.S. champion club, division, and exact number of American trophies (one or more of the four) have not yet been confirmed by ECNL or the club. We’ll update this piece as tournament results and club recaps are posted.
